It gives us great pleasure to invite you to experience TheatreiNQ's Education Programme, ThiNQ ED. ThiNQ ED workshops are the perfect way for you and your students to engage with Townsville's own professional theatre company – TheatreiNQ, known for producing the annual Shakespeare Under the Stars in Queens Gardens and for staging an exciting annual theatre season of Australian, classic and new works.

ThiNQ ED co-ordinator and lead workshop facilitator, Arminelle Fleming, is a senior actor for the company, a former lecturer at James Cook University and was previously the acting Artistic Director of La Luna Youth Arts. Other ThiNQ ED workshop facilitators are TheatreiNQ apprentices and third year members of The Bridge Project, the company's professional training programme.

We have listened to the needs of you, the educators of our community and we are pleased to be able to offer the following programmes to assist you in developing a love and appreciation of good theatre and theatre practices, in your students.

Skills Development Workshop
Each of the following can be delivered in a one-off capacity or expanded to a series.
Length: 1.5hr
Cost: $220 (inc. GST) / 3 Workshop Series for $550 (inc. GST)
Specs: For up to 26 Students per Workshop


Physical Theatre: Develop the skills and language of visual story telling. This workshop uses elements of Viewpoints and focuses on working as an ensemble. Perfect for as an introduction to physical theatre or as a way to further exploration of theatrical techniques.

Actioning Text: The basic principals to actioning text, suits all forms of text-based performance; realism, epic, heightened (Commedia, Elizabethan, Pantomime). One workshop can be helpful for basic elements but two or more would preferable to apply understanding to a specific text; one being studied in class or text provided by ThiNQ Ed.

Voice for Performance:
Using a mixture of Linklater, Berry and contemporary public speaking techniques, this series of workshops is ideal for general voice introduction to performances or presentations; material will be altered slightly depending on class type (Drama, English, Humanities).

Shakespeare Performance Tips: Within Shakespeare's plays are clues on how to perform the text. These workshops can assist students preparing for a presenting task or to simply improve understanding of Shakespearean text.

Shakespeare's Rhythm: The rhythm of Shakespeare's poetry is a key feature of the genius of his work. By understanding and being comfortable with the rhythm, students can better understand, analyse, and appreciate Shakespeare.

Epic Theatre (Brecht): This workshop explores the conventions of Epic Theatre. Multiple sessions are recommended for these workshops to assist students apply these conventions to text either from class or provided by THiNQ ED.

Character Exploration: Focusing on the individual actor, this workshop explores the conventions of Laban. Applying Laban to physicality and voice, students learn how to develop unique characters.

Clowning: Participants will be encouraged to unleash their inner clown using the slapstick/physical comedy tradition.
Performance Development Workshops

Shakey Bill - Performance

Length: 2 full days 9am – 5pm [1hr lunch, 2 x 20min breaks]
Cost: $990 [inc GST] – additional costs for transport and accommodation
Specs: Maximum 20 participants, suitable for a mix of high school students and general public or just one or the other.

Working with Shakespearean actor and trainer, participants will create a short performance with excerpts from Shakespearean plays. Participants will learn the basics of performing Shakespearean text and have the opportunity to showcase their learning with a short performance at the conclusion of the two-day workshop. The workshop will suit all performance levels from beginners through to those with some experience.


Shakey Bill – Professional Development for Teachers


Length: 2 full days 9am – 5pm [1hr lunch, 2 x 20min breaks]
Cost:
$990 [inc GST] – additional costs for transport and accommodation
Specs:
Maximum 20 participants, suitable for a mix of high school students and
general public or just one or the other.

Shakespearean actor and trainer will guide participants through the basics of Shakespearean performance including speaking rhythm, text analysis and achieving heightened performance. This workshop is particularly helpful for Drama and English teachers, and local directors interested in staging Shakespearean perfomances.


DIY Performance

Length: 2 full days 9am – 5pm [1hr lunch, 2 x 20min breaks]
Cost:
$990 [inc GST] – additional costs for transport and accommodation
Specs:
Maximum 20 participants, suitable for a mix of high school students and general public or just one or the other.

Learning how to create a performance based on a chosen topic or issue. Using physical theatre, improvisation and epic theatre conventions, participants will be guided through the creation of a new work. A short prformance may be staged at the conclusion of the two-day workshop.


Speak Out – Public Speaking Intensive

Length: 1 full days 9am – 5pm [1hr lunch, 2 x 20min breaks]
Cost:
$660 [inc GST] – additional costs for transport and accommodation
Specs:
Maximum 20 participants, suitable for a mix of high school students and general public or just one or the other.

Learn practical techniques for improving speaking delivery and develop methods for overcoming nerves and stage fright.
